October

So I started work on the first day of October. My first day was pretty easy. It started with a tour of the school and being introduced to the teachers and staff. This is my school´s first year as a bilingual school and everyone was very excited to meet me. Since it was the school´s first year as a bilingual school I am the only Auxiliar becuase they are introducing the new program to the first grade and each year it will grow one grade level. I have worked with first graders in the past and enjoyed it, also all of the teachers and staff were very welcoming and friendly. I was off to a great start.

Working with only one grade is great! It has really allowed me to get to know each student individually and its much easier to remember names haha. Both teachers that I am working with are amazing. They are very helpful and we have a good working relationship. They understand that I am an assistant and not a teacher which is amazing. We are a good team and help each other and evenly share class time and the work of preparing materials and lessons.

The children are equally amazing. They all have a will to learn and although they may not understand everything that I say in English they actively try. By the end of my first month I already began to notice that there English was improving from our first day together. I am excited to see how much they will improve by the end of the year.
